Description
Beau the Newfoundland is looking for his owner on a winter evening, snow is falling fast and he is beginning to worry. He sniffs the cold dry Canadian air but there is no hint of his master on the breeze. What should he do next? It's Christmas eve and he should be home by now, what is that? The sound of bells in the distance?
This is a photopainting based on a photograph of a large Newfoundland I was able to photograph a few years ago. I decided to put him out in a winter snowstorm looking for his owner, a breed known to rescue fisherman from cold icy waters. They are a working breed weighing anywhere from 130-150 pounds and once used for pulling nets from the water as well as hauling wood from the forest. From a distance they have the appearance of a lumbering black bear. The dog which was a nursemaid for the children in Peter Pan was a Newfoundland. Such beautiful and gentle souls.
