Description
Only the grey old castle,
Of crumbling stone and lime,
Still stands to speak of the ages,
And the iron footsteps of time. ~ excerpt from A Castle Old and Gray by Alexander Anderson
The Ross Castle was originally the ancestral home of the Donoghue clan. According to legend, Donoghue was sucked out of the window of the grand chamber at the top of the castle and disappeared into the lake below where he now keeps a close watch on the affairs of the castle. ~ Wikipedia
I captured Ross Castle twelve years ago when traveling in Ireland after attending a wedding. Such a mystical place; I would love to go back someday.

Thank you very much for your comment and your vote, Angela. I am with you regarding your view on Irish castles; they are wonderful to look at and it is great to visit them - would not want to live in any of them, though.

So rugged and weathered but still, one can imagine Goldilocks in that one window on top. Better than the Vikings underneath...An extraordinary sight, so well captured, Angela. L/F

Wonderful capture of this historic Ross Castle, Angela! If we could only read and hear the stories of some of the people that lived there throughout the years! Would love to visit Ireland! Enjoy the Wikipedia facts and the excerpt by Alexander Anderson! Excellent! LF
