Description
This is a portrait of my own thoroughbred mare at about 17 years of age. She competed in show hunter divisions, pleasure and eventing, winning many blue ribbons and championships during her lifetime and was a daughter of a National Hunter Champion, Diamonds and Steel, therefore her name of Court Diamonds. She lived until age twenty seven and was a perfect lady and companion with impeccable manners all her life; it shows in her refined and poised appearance. I lost her four years ago, but she will always remain in my heart. Thoroughbreds are very versatile horses and athletes. After racing, many have careers in eventing, foxhunting, show hunters and as pleasure horses. With a bit of retraining after a racing career, they can be phenomenally successful in other careers. If you are a serious rider and want to do something wonderful, consider adopting a retired race horse. They have a will to please attitude and the athletic ability to transition to many disciplines.

This brings back all of my memories of daughter Sarah who rode and competed from age 9 through Junior High. She was so talented and had the best pony and later a wonderful Appaloosa ...both supreme jumpers who carried her safely to many victories at the LA Equestrian Center. I was a barn "mother"...what fun. Your portrait is so beautiful! F/L+++
