Description
Haiku of Remembrance
A mahogany bay mare,
In the cool autumn mists,
Grazes peacefully alone.
This is a vintage photo of my first horse taken 36 years ago when she was four. I loved how her dark mahogany coat came alive in the light of sunset and dawn, bringing out the red tones. She was a best friend for over sixteen years and I always found peace at her side. She had such a calm and confident nature, never minding spending time alone by herself, an unusual trait in herd animals like horses. I would often see her grazing alone just like this and felt she was in her own little dream world. I could ride her anywhere including mountain trails all alone just the two of us as she did not get her confidence from other horses and was quite content to go exploring with me. Being in her presence was definitely my "place of peace."

Such a noble tribute of photoartistry and haiku to a beloved friend…animals are ethereal creatures, on such a higher level of vibration than us humans. I, too always feel privileged to share life space with them…FAV…THANK YOU for your share in The Artist BUZzz! FAV

Thanks Laurel, if only we could be as noble as the horse, having met many I always feel we fall short....but they do not judge us, another noble trait we could use....

Lovely, Angela! It is so special to have a wonderful horse - I have been blessed in my life with several (and several NOT so wonderful, but that's a whole other thing!). Lovely haiku, also!

Thanks so much Connie! I was very fortunate to have two incredible mares, and a couple of very handsome geldings, one a saint, the other one left me in the dust a few times. :)
