Tammany was a chief of the Lenape nation in the Delaware Valley of North America. He lived from 1625-1701 and was instrumental in negotiating peace between his nation and the early British Settlers during the time of William Penn. He was considered an icon for the peaceful policy of negotiation and later considered a Patron Saint of America. ~ref. Wikipedia
