Description
"Spring has returned. The earth is like a child that knows poems." ~ Rainer Maria Rilke
This spring we had our first flock of waxwings. One of the flock, perched in my pink dogwood, inspired this watercolor.
This species breeds in open coniferous or mixed coniferous or deciduous forests of the far north. It winters wherever fruits are found including gardens, parks and cities. Depending primarily on fruits, this species also flycatches and pulls insects from vegetation. It travels in flocks of various sizes. Apparently, because the Bohemian Waxwing is not a territorial species, it has no territorial song. It's most frequent calls are trills and clear whistles, used for communication within the flock. ref: Bird Songs Bible
