Artist's Description
The Lutheran Seminary Cupola served as a lookout on July 1st, 1863, the first day of the Battle of Gettysburg. From this cupola, Brigadier General John Buford, observed the opening of the battle to the west of Seminary Ridge.
I captured this image late July 1st, 2014 after a thunderstorm. The sky was nearly black with storm clouds and the late evening sun illuminating the cupola provided a stark contrast between sky and cupola.

Yes, I knew they were buildings....but with so much history in each of them, they seem like monuments to me!

This is not a monument but rather an architectural feature atop the Lutheran Seminary where General Buford observed the first action of the Battle of Gettysburg July 1st 1863. The rest of the building is obscured by darkness and trees.
