Description
This portrait was based on a wonderful mare that I was lucky to find as a two year old and trained myself. We went everywhere together when we were young. We were most at home on the trails but did the occasional horse show and I braided her up just like this when we did go. She was a brave soul, unafraid to go on the most deserted mountain trails all alone with only me for company. She was a very safe jumper and it was not unusual for us to leap over large logs across the pathway on trails through the woods. During a blizzard one winter I rode her into snow up to her neck and she leaped effortlessly through it like a deer. I always felt safe on her back wherever we went, such an elegant ride!

What a great watercolor, Angela....and the story of you and this lovely horse just made my morning. As a "barn" mother of a daughter who rode and jumped in shows for years in LA on a pony and then a loyal horse I so appreciate your trust and your horse companion! Plus your artistry!! Wow.
